Fiddler’s Green had its origins in 18th century sailing lore. Common seamen, who repaired their lines with a splicing tool called a fid, dreamed of a sailor’s heaven, where after the long voyage their every desire would be fulfilled.

Today, Steve & Debi of Point Loma and their friends welcome you to their own Fiddler’s Green where the best food and drink, and perhaps a touch of merriment, are offered nightly in one of the world’s most renowned sailing ports.

The Theme is nautical, as you would image. When you enter the restaurant, you are greeted by a wall of half-hull boat models and when you look around, you’ll see more eclectic stuff, like the Fantasy Banyan Tree with a peacock in it….You might do a double-take, when you see an old guy fishing from above the room. Very entertaining.

We are kid-friendly, and there are plenty of nautical gadgets to keep them amused. But be warned that they may ask a lot of annoying questions, like “What’s this called?”

I read the reviews and we booked 5 nights at the BW Island Palms & Marina. It was a great choice…..great location. We stayed in the new section- wonderful view of marina by the KONA Marina entrance. It was very quiet….we stayed street level – Room 482. Had a patio with blooming red begonias….I really enjoyed having a glass of wine and checking out the happenings at the marina. Be sure and have breakfast at the hotel…..again a wonderful view of the marina, good food & service. We had breakfast and then walked every morning on the SD Bay walking path….before starting our day’s activities. They do have multiple pools….with outside fireplace…..if you want to veg out at the hotel. This hotel is definitely a feather in the Best Western properties. “We stayed at the Best Western Island Palms on Shelter Island and I have to say, we’ll be staying there again. The lobby was beautiful with a nice water fountain and greenery. The staff was very nice and it was easy to check in. Our room was next to the pool and had a view of the marina. It was a king size bed and was very clean. They are a very family friendly hotel. The Sunday that we were there, they had a movie night in the pool area, showing “Horton Hears a Who.” It was fun floating in the pool watching the movie. We had breakfast and two dinners at the hotel’s restaurant, the Blue Wave Bar & Grill. The food was delicious and the staff was very friendly. They have patio seating that over looks the pool area and a wonderful view of the marina. We even got to see the fireworks from Sea World as we had late night drinks and desert.
